Starting With Today is seeking an experienced and proved Public Relations volunteer to help amplify our impact in the Washington, D.C. area via TV, radio, digital, and/or print medias. Starting With Today (SWT) is a Black, female-founded nonprofit based in the Washington, DC metro that celebrates and cultivates Black wellbeing and liberation. SWT provides hybrid digital and in-person programming through direct community programs, community-centered advocacy training, Black-businesses partnerships, parent engagement programs, online programs, and a podcast, that features:

The Shape Up: The Barbershop Talks Series that brings Black therapists and professionals to the Black Barbershop. Since May 2018, SWT has successfully partnered with Lee’s Barber Shop in Southeast DC to make therapy accessible and culturally relevant.

#MyHairAppt- a space for Black womxn to explore, define, and cultivate wellness on our own terms.

SWT approaches economic justice by hacking systems to reduce the financial, transportation, and cultural barriers to entry for wellness. Since launching in 2014, SWT has delivered over $1 Million worth of services and collaborated with over 35 partners to reach over 7700 participants through career development, economic empowerment, mental health, health and wellness programs, community events, LGBTQIA+, and advocacy training by bringing in the best in industry professionals on a local and national level to share safe learning spaces with our community.
