Project Overview

We need two skilled volunteers to help us with a PR plan to get the word out to funders and large corporations. Below is a draft of the press release. We want to target AMEX, Coca-Cola, Ford Foundation, Comcast, and Shell.

SolarFi Cares, the 501(c)(3) non-profit arm of SolarFi, is proud to announce the launch of a business incubation initiative to help 10,000 small minority- and women-owned American businesses recover from the effects of the global Covid-19 pandemic. Due to restrictions on their activities, many of these businesses are no longer thriving or have already closed their doors, which has resulted in the loss of jobs and livelihoods for thousands of people associated with those businesses.

With COVID-19 ushering people into a “new normal,” many businesses are struggling to bring in revenue and keep their doors open. Nearly one in six restaurants has closed due to the pandemic. Although gathering outdoors is one way for businesses to adapt to COVID-19 restrictions, this can be difficult for many. Privé Pods, created by SolarFi, provide an answer to that problem by providing a one-stop solution that allows for safe, sustainable, elegant, and socially distanced outdoor gathering spaces. In the coming months and with the support of corporations, foundations, and major donors, SolarFi Cares will donate Privé Pods to 10,000 small minority- and women-owned American businesses that will be selected through an application process.

We are also working on the Hakuna Matata project which is an eco-friendly outdoor glamping community and workspace. Here is a one minute video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHP_L16SPiE

We are an impact-driven community of people working to build a more efficient and sustainable system for emergency response and hospitality. As the world continues to adopt solar power as a means of transforming our cities and businesses, we aim to be a part of that effort, providing sustainable solutions to emergency response and hospitality services.

This multi-stakeholder project aims to develop a model for partnership between SolarFi Cares, American Express, and the Queens Borough President to provide practical and innovative solutions for restaurants, small businesses, nonprofits, and other organizations dealing with current social distancing issues caused by COVID-19.

SolarFi Cares is pleased to submit this economic development proposal that will support Queens companies and organizations while restoring commerce capacity. SolarFi Cares aims to help businesses and other organizations stay open, provide new economic development opportunities, and support minority- and female-owned businesses and small businesses in general, all while using 100% recycled materials and solar power.

Our solution safely helps businesses stay open, provides new economic development opportunities, supports minority- and female-owned businesses and small businesses in general, uses 100% recycled materials, and is solar-powered.

We have grant writers that Columbia University pays for us, we have an in-house marketing person, and the Borough President's office in Queens, NY.

The first phase is to provide 100 pods in Queens, NY, New Orleans, or Los Angeles

Nonprofit Overview

Our thematic focus areas are health, education, and economic development with solar energy access being the thread connecting them all. With the power of Solar and IoT we can lift a generation out of poverty. Access to solar energy and last-mile distribution is a mission that SolarFi has tirelessly been working on.

SolarFi Cares is currently working towards two main goals:
- Providing power-generating pods for emergency response, combining a structure with portable solar-powered systems to provide power, communication and water in post-disaster zones.
- Providing solar-powered clinics in rural Africa, tackling both the current response to COVID-19, as well as creating a long-term plan for economic sustainability post-pandemic. Our solar-powered clinics will serve as a center for primary diagnostic and preventive care in rural areas, equipped with COVID-19 test kits, antibody testing, basic medicines, vaccinations against other preventable diseases, and delivery of health supplies. Using solar energy to generate power allows the clinics to be completely off-grid, bringing healthcare to the most remote communities.
