Project Overview

What CVLS Is Planning: In the wake of COVID-19 and the financial hardship for consumers, CVLS is developing a self-help resource for consumers in mortgage forbearance or foreclosure and CVLS volunteers representing those clients to determine the options available to them in the "loss mitigation" component of the foreclosure process. We are working on a model that will calculate based on (a) their lender, (b) the amount of the delinquency of their mortgage, (c) the interest rate on their mortgage, (c) the number of months they are delinquent on their mortgage payment, and (e) their income, what programs are available to them to modify, reinstate, forbear payment, or otherwise cure their mortgage delinquency to avoid losing their home. We will have the model built in the next few weeks, although it may change if Congress and the Biden administration pass additional economic relief for homeowners.

What CVLS Needs: CVLS needs a person experienced in coding and website development who can take the information we provide and the model(s) we built and create a dedicated page on the CVLS webpage that consumers and attorneys can use to input the information described above and find out the specific programs they or their client qualifies for.

Help thousands of homeowners affected by COVID-19 remain in their homes. The global pandemic has shattered the lives and financial outlook of millions of homeowners. CVLS wants to help them, but we need your help. Put your coding and web development skills to work by helping us create a self-help resource that will allow the millions of homeowners affected by COVID-19 to determine what programs are available to them based on just a few inputs on our website. This project will help homeowners and their attorneys efficiently determine the exact relief available, and will allow them to quickly communicate with their lenders and mortgage servicers to stop a foreclosure before the homeowner loses their home.
We are already working on preparing the appropriate content and guidance in written form and will have the written web content in the next 2-3 weeks. We are also working on building the Excel model that will receive the inputs and do the calculations. The goal is to have the website developed and running prior to the end of the mortgage foreclosure moratorium on March 31, 2021 for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac loans and June 30, 2021 for all other federally backed mortgages. If Congress and the Biden administration pass additional economic relief for homeowners, some of the content may have to be rewritten and the model rebuilt, but the bones of the coding and development by any volunteer should not have to be redone.

Nonprofit Overview

CVLS is comprised of 2,400+ volunteer attorneys who donate free services to thousands of low-income Chicagoans annually. Our services are 100% free, accessible & real.

We have done our best to bring together all the resources of the great city of Chicago.
