Project Overview

Center for Family Life (CFL) seeks a skilled volunteer to assist in the planning of a virtual fundraising event. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CFL was regrettably obliged to cancel its annual Celebrating Community fundraiser this year, originally planned for May 2020. This event brings together board members, donors, community members, and other friends of the organization to celebrate the organization’s work and our chosen honoree(s) and to fundraise for our operations. CFL plans to host a virtual Celebrating Community event in Fall 2020 and is seeking assistance in the planning of an engaging, effective online event.
Center for Family Life (CFL) is a neighborhood-based social service organization in the low-income, immigrant community of Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Each year we engage over 16,500 community residents with comprehensive services in counseling, employment, education, the arts and recreation. CFL has been an even more critical resource to the Sunset Park community in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. From the expansion of our food pantry’s capacity to emergency cash assistance to assistance with filing unemployment claims, CFL has and will continue to effectively respond to this volatile situation.

In addition to posing serious challenges for our clients, the ongoing pandemic has forced CFL to cancel its annual Celebrating Community fundraising event, originally scheduled for May 2020. Volunteers who partner with CFL will have the opportunity to assist in the creation of a virtual Celebrating Community event to be held in Fall 2020 and will greatly contribute to our ability to fundraise and meet the immediate and pressing needs of the low-income, immigrant Sunset Park community in this tremendously difficult time.

Center for Family Life is prepared to discuss the typical structure of its Celebrating Community fundraising event with the selected volunteer(s) and to constructively engage in the exploration of a virtual alternative. When the plan for a virtual event has been developed, it will be executed by existing CFL development staff.
